Antique stores are just about as plentiful as Baptist churches. This church marries 'em and buries 'em on the same site. The Pink Cadillac Diner looks like a giant bottle of Pepto Bismol.

We got up at 4:30 this morning and started biking by 5:00 hoping to get through Salem and Roanoke before the rush hour traffic started.  We even bypassed breakfast with the thoughts of eating at a Waffle House we'd be passing in Troutville.

The strategy worked because we were sitting in the Waffle House eating breakfast at 7:00 this morning and we passed very little traffic to get there.  The coffee during breakfast tasted good because the temperature this morning was in the 50's.  It's the coldest morning since we've been in Breckenridge, and without our winter gear our hands and arms were frozen.  It didn't take long to warm up once the sun came out while we ate.

When we arrived in Lexington there was Art eating a peanut butter bagel in the Stonewall Jackson cemetery.  He's had this thing with stopping at cemeteries and checking out the dates on the grave stones.  He said this place had the oldest ones he's seen so far.  We stopped and chatted for a while and then headed on out of town to find a place to stay for the night.

The Red Oak Inn was about 3 miles out of town (off route on US 11) so we decided to stop there for today.  Gary and Ron spent the afternoon cleaning bikes and lubing chains while Carol soaked in the pool.  For dinner we went to Aunt Sarah's Restaurant.  The meal was average at best, but they allowed seconds on the vegetables so that helped to make up for the lack of quality.  Our dessert was apple pie a-la-mode.  We've gotten into the habit of telling the waitress not to heat our pie before bring it out, and we did that today.  When it came out the apples were still frozen.  Next time we'll be careful to ask if the pie is still frozen or not.
