| More rolling hills today, but we'll take them. They
are a lot easier on the legs than the Ozarks and Little Ozarks of Missouri
and Illinois. We realize we'll soon be climbing over the
Appalachians so we're enjoying central Kentucky until then.
By studying a road map of Kentucky we saw that there was a short-cut we could take from New Haven to Springfield, saving 12 miles. Our destination for the day is Harrodsburg so the shorter route made the day easier. We chose to go the shorter distance. Of course we missed My Old Kentucky Home State Park and the Lincoln Homestead State Park, but the savings was worth it. In Springfield we stopped at Subway for lunch. Since Carol got sick in Rawlings, Wyoming while eating at a Subway she has not been eager to eat there again. It's been a while, and time does heal wounds, so she was easily talked into stopping. They even had a 2 for the price of one deal which we took advantage of and ate well. Getting to Harrodsburg was no problem. We stayed in the Harrodstown Motel, a clean well run place. Dinner was at Ann's Restaurant next door and it was delicious. The meal was good home style cooking (real mashed potatoes even) with a dessert that was out of this world-the best home made raspberry cobbler you could ever imagine, topped off with a generous scoop of ice cream. Life continues to be good on the Transamerica Trail. We're looking forward to a good night's sleep and then a short ride to Berea to visit with our son Bob and his wife Missy. They are driving down from Cincinnati and bringing dinner with them! We can't wait! |
