At times the directions were a little confusing. The Ozark roller coaster ride.   Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park.

More Ozark hills today, but hopefully today will be the end.  Our goal is to get to Farmington and that should put us in easier terrain tomorrow.

Today's ride took us past Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park.  There is a very interesting area inside the park where the East Fork of the Black River flows into a canyon.  In that canyon are volcanic rocks that at one time were covered by layers of sedimentary rocks.  Over time the sedimentary rock has been eroded away and the steel-hard volcanic rocks left exposed.  The result is an area where the valley walls converge and the river plunges over a series of enclosed rapids called shut-ins.  The park is a popular spot for sight seers and bathers alike.  We took advantage of the break and had our typical PBJ lunch.

As we approached Farmington the traffic got worse.  Put impatient, irate drivers behind the wheels of these cars, on a narrow road without any shoulder, driving faster than the speed limit, and you have a picture of our biking conditions the last 8 miles today.  By the time we got to Farmington our nerves were frazzled.

One bright spot in Farmington was the Ryans Steak House where we had dinner.  They had an all you can eat buffet that had everything on it you can imagine.  Included with the meal was a dessert buffet (yes, there was an ice cream machine) that was out of this world.  All for under $7, drinks included.
