The bare faced mountains in the Rockies... ...changed into flat dry farmland in eastern Colorado.

We had to watch were we walked when going into the bushes.

We all had a great night's sleep, and the roosters in the pen next to our outhouse woke us in the morning.  Life is great!

Today's ride was downhill and with the wind the whole way.  We flew down the last 10 miles into Canon City at 35 mph.  What a ride!

We stopped in Canon City for breakfast at Mr. Ed's Family Restaurant.  After eating Gary asked several of the local men about the route to Pueblo.  They all agreed that US 50 was a shorter route, and not as many hills as the route on our map.  We decided to take the shorter route.

US 50 was a four lane highway with fast moving traffic, but it had a wide paved shoulder.  We made good time getting to Pueblo.  While riding into town we noticed a bank thermometer that read 101 degrees.  A motel was in the plans.

Since we are out of the mountains and heading into the hot Midwest there was no need to carry all the winter clothing we had with us.  We went to the Post Office and shipped 20 pounds of stuff home.  We have already noticed the difference in our bikes and are looking forward to making good time in the flatter terrain ahead.  There was also a discussion that we should send our camping gear home and stay in motels the rest of the way, but decided to keep the camping option open.

While riding to the motel Gary ran over a roofing nail and he had his second flat of the trip.  It didn't take long to change the flat and we were at our Motel 6 in no time at all.

Dinner at the Country Kitchen Restaurant was spaghetti and meatballs, one of the few times on the trip we were able to have a pasta meal.  We're looking forward to a good night's sleep, then "Bring on Kansas"!
