Red Peak near Silverthorne. Riding the Silverthorne to Breckenridge bike trail. Breck Inn manager Pam (in the middle) allowed us to use her computer to send an email home.

We had another short night of sleep.  There was a family tenting next to us that stayed up late playing some silly game.  They'd take turns saying, "I went camping and I brought along my sleeping bag, my pillow, my tent, my Frisbee, ..."  Each time trying to outdo the previous person.  It went on forever!  Finally sometime near midnight Gary yelled to be quiet so we could get some sleep.  That quieted them down somewhat and we were able to go to sleep.  Getting up at 5:00 didn't leave much time for rest.  This tent camping is getting old, especially on weekends when the tourists are out in full force.

On the bright side, our breakfast at Our Family Kitchen in Kremmling was fantastic.  All the pastries are homemade right there.  We all had the pecan covered sticky buns and  they were out of this world!

As we rode along today we could see the Colorado Rockies growing larger and larger in front of us.  As we approached Silverthorne they were our constant companions.  We were in awe of Mt. Powell, Buffalo Mountain, Red Peak, and all the others that seemed to be touching the sky.  It was an awesome sight!

Our ride was a gradual climb as we followed the Blue River from Kremmling to Breckenridge.  Near Silverthorne the elevation changed into the 9000' range.  In Breckenridge we approached 10,000'.  We could notice the effects of this altitude with slight headaches, some dizziness, a sluggish feeling, and very tired legs.  Our pace slowed and we found ourselves taking frequent breaks.  At first we had thought about going over Hoosier Pass today but the effects of altitude and a brewing thunderstorm helped us to decide to stay in Breckenridge for the night.  The lack of sleep from the past two nights cemented the decision to get a motel room.

The manager at the Breck Inn gave us a special  rate on our room and allowed us to use the motel computer to send emails.  We had pizza delivered to our room by Dominos.  The steady rain that settled in for several hours added to the comfort of our "camp".

Tomorrow we go over Hoosier Pass!
