| Carol must have had something bad for dinner last
night. She spent the night in the bathroom throwing up. By
morning she felt better, but was very tired from no sleep. We
considered staying in Rawlins for a rest day, but Carol said "No,
let's try and get some miles in today. I feel 75%." So
out the door we went for another interesting day on the road.
We didn't get very far. Outside the motel room Gary noticed his back tire was flat, the first one we've had during the trip. The tire had lots of wear on it so while it was off he decided to replace it as well as the tube. We were carrying extra tires just for an emergency like this. With new tire and tube on the bike we were now ready to go. Our maps showed we should follow a secondary road from Rawlins to Sinclair and then onto Interstate 80 for the next 13 miles. We decided to get on I 80 in Rawlins and save the ride on a narrow secondary road. Biking on 80 was nice because of the push we got every time a convoy of trucks passed, which was often. The ride to Walcott went fast. The remainder of the ride to Riverside was with crosswinds and the threat of rain. The sky blackened, the wind increased, and lightening could be seen on the horizon. We picked up the pace and made it to town in time to beat the storm. It would have been nice to stay at the local campground because 7 westbound Transam cyclists are staying there tonight. We opted for a stay at Bear Trap Cabins to give Carol a chance to make up for the lack of sleep last night. What a trooper, she still rode 62 miles after being sick all night and feeling queasy most of today. |
