With places like Windy Mountain, Windy Ridge, and Wind River to ride by today you can appreciate Steve & Linda wanting to get an early start. Even the horses stopped to watch us go by. The Red Hills east of Dubois.

Each day seems to be hotter than the one before, so we've decided to get up earlier to beat as much of the heat as possible.  The one hindrance to this plan is finding a restaurant that opens early.  This morning we got started at 6:30 after another great meal at the Cowboy Cafe.

Windy Mountain shadowed our exit from Dubois this morning.  The Wind River was our companion much of the way as we rode through the Wind River Indian Reservation and passed by Windy Ridge.  Just past Fort Washakie, named after a chief of the Shoshoni, the town of Wind River gave us a look at life on the reservation.  If you get the idea that Wyoming is known for it's wind then you're right.  We asked some locals at breakfast  this morning if the wind always blows like it had yesterday, and they said "no, it's usually much worse, this 15-20 mph stuff is pretty calm."  Needless to say we rode in the wind today.  Fortunately for us it was at our backs when we started.

Oh, the joy of riding downstream and with the wind!  That's what we experienced for the first half of the ride today.  It was a refreshing as we effortlessly sped down the Wind River Valley.  However, the second half was a different story, it turned out to be rolling hills, cross winds, and hot.  By the time we got to Lander wind, hills, and heat had taken their toll.  We were whipped and soon looking for a motel room to recover in.  Hot showers, air conditioning, and a bed to sleep in really sounded good as we checked into the Teton Motel.  An added bonus was a pool that we took full advantage of.

Our dinner was an excellent pizza from Tony's across the street and ice cream for dessert.  The Dairy Barn next to our motel had a special on cones, $.39 each.  We had several before retiring to our room to relax.
