Cannon Beach provided us with our first look at the Pacific Ocean.  The mist on the haystack rocks gave it an eerie look. The traditional dipping of the rear wheels in the Pacific on Cannon Beach. Cannon Beach from further down the road.

The rugged Oregon coast was awesome! It didn't take us long to discover that eating would be a big part of each day. This yurt was our lodging for the night at Cape Lookout State Park.  It is a wooden frame covered with canvas and furnished with bunk beds.  Very cozy!

Everything was soaked from the morning dew when we got up this morning.  We packed up our wet gear, ate half a bagel and got started at 6:30.  About 8 miles into the ride we came to Cannon Beach and saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time.  There was an easy access to the beach so we took the opportunity to do the traditional dipping of the rear wheels.  The view from the beach was beautiful with the Haystack Rocks in the ocean surrounded by a light fog.

Breakfast was the next item on our agenda.  Manzanita had a nice little restaurant where we had pancakes with delicious raspberry syrup.

The ride down the Pacific Coast Scenic Highway was just that.  Many times the road went next to the coast and offered awesome views of the Pacific.  A couple we had met at the campground in Seaside said we should keep a watch for whales.  They can often be seen from the highway.  We didn't see any.

Our stop for the night was at Cape Lookout State Park where we rented a yurt - a round canvas cabin with a bed, couch, electricity, skylight, and space heater!.  We took the opportunity to dry out our camping gear by draping it over bushes around the campsite.
