| This morning was another cold one as we broke camp and
packed up the gear. Diane Jensen, the owner of Hell's
Canyon Outfitters, said she'd be in at 6:00 so we were anxious to get
over there for a cup of hot coffee and something to eat. She was
about 15 minutes late getting there, but made up for the delay by treating
us to coffee. The bear claws and sweet rolls we purchased tasted
great with the hot coffee. While eating and enjoying the warm store
we noticed there was a computer in the back office. It had been
almost a week since our last email home. We wondered if it was
connected to the internet and if we'd be lucky enough to be able to use
it. When we asked Diane if they had internet service in Pine Creek
she told us they did, and asked why we wanted to know. When we told
her our need she was more than happy to dial it up and let us send out a
message. These folks in Oregon sure have been nice. Were going
to miss them when we cross into Idaho in a few miles.
Our ride today followed a section of the Snake River that has been dammed to produce power. There are three major dams on the river and we passed by two of them today, Oxbow and Brownlee. The scenery was beautiful with the high mountains reflecting in the clear, blue water. It wasn't long before we crossed over the river and entered Idaho. When we got to Council we decided to stay at the Starlight Motel. Carol has been having some pain in her back, and today her legs ache. It was time to sleep in a real bed. The hot shower, real towels, comfortable beds, and air conditioning are great. We're looking forward to a good night's sleep! |
