As you can see we arrived at Washington Dulles in the early morning hours.  Our plane departed at 6:30am. EDT An airport shuttle took us from Portland airport to the front door of the bike shop where we had shipped our bikes and gear. We were tired from all the travel, but still managed a smile as we thought of the adventure ahead of us.

The sun sat on our first camp after a long day of travel.

Today was a very long day!

It all started in Ft. Ashby, WV at 3:00am when we left for Washington Dulles airport.  Ron's neighbor agreed to get up at that hour and drive us to the airport.  Our flight from Dulles departed at 6:40am EDT, and we arrived in Portland at 11:00am PDT.  An airport shuttle picked us up around noon, and delivered us to the bike shop in Astoria where our bikes and gear were waiting for us.

Emotions were running high at this time so there were no feelings of fatigue from the travel.  We checked out our bikes, which had been assembled and tuned up for us, loaded the gear on them, paid the bill, and headed out the door to see how many miles we could ride before total fatigue set in.

Twenty-four miles later, and 18 hours after leaving home, we arrived in the coastal town of Seaside and decided we had had enough.  Supper was a chicken dinner at KFC, and camp for tonight the Circle Creek Campground.  Hot showers and clean clothes revived us enough to set up camp, and socialize with other campers.  However, bedtime came early as we gladly retreated to our tents at 8:00.
